Day Services
Sarah Krom
This edition was scripted by the 4 division managers.
Thank you all for your kind condolences after the death of my
mother. Sarah Krom
Production Viewpoint - John
Suchy
Through much hard work, everyone has been doing a great job on
completing the work required to meet our contracts. Many
times a product is needed by a company with very short notice,
our staff and clients have pulled together to make things happen
on time. Work has been steady, with the normal ebb and
flow of the season, and we also have had some old customers
re-order products we have not made in some time. Recycling
production has been steady with the baling crew working hard at
getting caught back up after some mechanical issues occurred
with our baler. I anticipate it will take a bit longer to
get back to not having an overstock of raw material waiting to
be baled.
I work with a group of very caring people and it make's it a joy
coming to work everyday. Thanks for the good work and
let's KEEP IT UP!
Employment Opportunities -
Coleen Nuss
I am proud to say that our client's never cease to amaze me! As
the manager of employment opportunities at the plant it is
rewarding to my staff and I, the number of folks who really want
to be given every chance available to prove themselves.
Several folks like to set goals for themselves on a daily basis.
Usually those goals involve how many items they can produce in a
specific time frame. Most of the time they obtain those
goals, and often succeed in exceeding them. As well as the
personal satisfaction of knowing they have done their best and
maximized their earnings, it is very beneficial to our customers
as we strive to meet their product deadlines. Our folks
have always risen to the occasion, things are done when promised
and quality is never compromised. While the records for
every job in the plant are impressive (and to numerous to
mention) 1 person holds 4 separate records: 582 fins cut,
1470 core assemblies, 460 wrapped 10' hoses, and 1585 filled
capsules. All these records are held by ..........Brenda
Jackson.........Great Job Brenda!
All our clients deserve a big hand for keeping up our high
standards of production. Thanks to all of them, their
families, friends, and supporters for being there for us as we
work with you and your loved ones. And as the Employment
Services Manager I would also like to say thanks to all the E.S.
staff for the support you have provided to folks as they achieve
these goals.
The 3 R's - Dan Zimmerschied
What do Judy, Jim,
Sarah, Bill, Angie, and Ken have in common? {And I can't
forget Gary}. Stumped? It's recycling! They
see my smiling face every time they visit the 1st Step drop off
center {ok, ok so Sarah see's it almost every day}.
Volumes have been steady and we have been busy. It seems
like we see new faces almost every day. Remember if we
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle {those 3 R's} then we have Earth Day,
Every Day. Why don't you stop by and bring some paper with
you!
Out and About - Penny Rhodes
Folks that have chosen
retirement, leisure, and therapy services have been enjoying the
nice weather this fall. While we continue with the Gym
program at the Foundry Methodist Church, Lunch Out,
Meals-on-Wheels {we connect with 7 folks every Tuesday}, we have
also been to the Smoky Hill's Maze and Pumpkin Patch.
Craft classes, swimming, and other opportunities provided by the
GBRC continue to be fun for all. We are beginning to look
for indoor opportunities that folks can enjoy during the winter.
If you know of any programs of interest that we could attend, or
folks that would be willing to come present at Sunflower please
let me know.

We have been busy this month mailing out consents for the flu shots.
Every year gets better with the guardians getting the forms back to
us. The health department will not give the injection without
the consent of the guardian. The Barton County Health
Department comes to our site and gives the flu shot each year.
They do a wonderful job and work with our people very well.
It is important for all of us to get the flu shot. This year
there is no shortage of vaccine. In years of a shortage, they
limit the vaccine to high risk groups.
Most cases of the flu occur between December and early March.
Many times it is hard to know if someone has a cold or the flu.
Here are some ways to help know.
Usually the onset of flu is sudden and a cold will come on slower.
With the flu you will have a high fever and with a cold will be no
fever or a mild fever like 100 degrees or less.
With the flu you will feel exhausted and achy and with a cold you
may feel tired but not exhausted and you won't ache all over.
With the flu you will have chills and with a cold you usually will
not have chills.
It is important to remember that flu symptoms can vary with each
person, so if you suspect the flu, see a doctor. Doctors often
have to test to be sure if it is the flu and the doctor may
prescribe an antiviral medicine that can help with the symptoms but
it has to be given within 48 hours of the onset of the flu.
It is important to see a doctor immediately, if you have any trouble
breathing, have a high fever, have a bad headache or a sore throat.
The flu vaccine is made with a dead virus so you will not get the
flu from the vaccination, however, your arm may be sore at the site
of the injection. The soreness should not last more than a day
or two.
My wish for you is to have a healthy and happy winter season!
