Sunflower Diversified plans Charity Gala; auction items needed

Sturdi-Bilt donated this shed to the Sunflower Diversified Services Charity Gala. More items are needed for the silent and live auctions.

Cody Harris and his colleagues at Sunflower Diversified Services have been in the thick of organizing the non-profit agency’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Sunflower Charity Gala is scheduled for 5:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Great Bend Events Center.

All proceeds go directly to infants, toddlers and adults with developmental disabilities and delays.

“We are so excited to host this great evening in the company of our many supporters,” said Harris, Sunflower’s director of planned giving and community supports. “Our online event was successful last year but there is nothing like meeting in person.”

Sunflower has collected some items for the silent and live auctions but many more are needed, Harris said.

One of the bigger items already donated is a 10-by-12 Elite Gable shed from Sturdi-Bilt, Great Bend. The retail value is $4,352.

“We cannot thank the Sturdi-Bilt folks enough,” Harris said. “The people Sunflower serves and our staff are so grateful for this local support. The shed is a very attractive addition to our live auction.

“Our auctions have been popular over the years thanks to our generous donors,” he added. “To continue this 17th annual tradition, we definitely need more items. Those

who contribute can be assured their generosity will directly affect children and adults with special needs.”

Cost for the Gala is $100 per person. The evening starts with a social hour and silent auction. Ellsworth Steakhouse will cater the 7 p.m. dinner; the live auction will follow. An open bar is available throughout the event.

Scott Donovan is the emcee and Mike Niedens the auctioneer.

“Scott and Mike are always entertaining, while keeping the crowd fully engaged,” Harris said. “Their commitment over the years to the people Sunflower serves is nothing short of exceptional.

“We encourage other long-time supporters and newcomers to contribute to this most worthy cause. You can attend the Gala, donate auction items, become a sponsor, serve as a volunteer or all of the above. The children and adults we serve are counting on us.”

Sunflower serves infants, toddlers and adults in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties. It is in its 56th year.
